1. What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
A friend of mine had been trying to recruit me for months to come try it out. I kept blowing him off and making fun of him on how dumb I thought crossfit was. I did the traditional wake up everyday and go to the gym and do the same ol thing everyday with very little result. He finally offered me a free session to try crossfit out and so the rest is history.
 2. What was your first impression? How has that changed?
When I first came in I thought this was gonna be a hyped up aerobics class. Thinking I was strong enough to just crush it and go back to my normal gym and keep grinding. Boy was I wrong. Reality smacked me in the face very quickly. Not only was it the hardest workout I had ever done to that point but it was also the most rewarding. I was hooked.
3. What was your first “goal”? Did you hit it?
My first goal was to just make it through a work out and not feel like I was gonna pass out. Did I hit it?…..Well Ive come to learn the longer you did crossfit and the better you get the harder you try and the more you feel like your gonna pass out haha….So im not sure if I’ll ever hit that one. The fact I watch Greg, one of the fittest people ive ever met, do workouts and throw up just about every time just further validates my theory.
4. What are you working on now?
Getting better at HSPU, Pistols and Ring Muscle ups. All weaknesses of mine
5. What’s your favorite Root 18 memory?
Well now thats a hard question to answer. The amount of memory’s created at Root its hard to pick just one. So I will say the first day I showed up. Crossfit has really changed my life. I lost 70lbs and am in the best shape I’ve ever been in my life. I’ve never met a group of people so dedicated to helping you succeed in your fitness goals. The coaches are truly an inspiration. I owe everything to the coaches. You guys have helped me find an inner strength I never knew I had. I am able to push myself far beyond I ever thought was imaginable. I’ve made so many amazing friends at root, It is just truly a amazing group of people. Nothing has validated that more then watching the support of the entire gym when Evan was attempting his first Bar Muscle up in this years open. The reaction from everyone when he did his first one was very touching. You all are amazing people and it is an honor to not only work out with you but consider you family. Root is so much more then a gym so much more then a box, its family to me. I leave you with this, for those of you who are struggling to hit your first HSPU or do your first Muscle up or hit that depth in you squat, keep grinding listen to the coaches and find that dark place, it is not a matter of if you can do it is just a matter you’ll finally do it. Stay positive stay strong . There were so many things I thought I would never be able to do and there’s no better rush then when you finally do it. As I do best, heres a little quote to motivate you!  “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”
