1. What brought you to CrossFit in the first place?
I had been taking some classes at the rec center, but the instructor that taught kick-boxing, which was my favorite class, was leaving. My membership was also about to expire. I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do next and a friend from work had been talking about Crossfit. I researched what was available in Medina and Root18 had a Groupon at the time so I bought it. That was over 2 years ago and I’m still here!
2. What was your first impression? How has that changed?
Well, the first day I walked in the WOD was The Murph, so I’m surprised I came back! After that first WOD, even though I couldn’t move for days, I realized that Crossfit was what I needed. I was nervous walking in that first day because I’m so shy, but everyone was so nice and encouraging and made me feel like part of the family that we seem to be at Root18.
3. What was your first “goal”? Did you hit it?
I don’t know that I had a goal, but there a few things I’ve been working on, box jumps, double unders, pull ups and handstand push ups. I’ve finally gotten box jumps and double unders. It only took me 2 years!
4. What are you working on now?
I still want to work on pull ups and handstand push ups, but I also want to get better at snatches. Snatches are one with thing I struggle with and have been stuck at the same weight forever. I’m also working on being a better me and with the help of the coaches and others that is happening. I feel great, i’m getting stronger, getting PR’s and RX’ing some workouts.
5. What’s your favorite Root 18 memory?
There are a lot, I will obviously never forget my first WOD and Carlin helping me get through it, but the Sherminator is probably my favorite. Chrissy talked me into doing the competition with her and I’m so glad she did. It was my first competition and I was amazed at the turnout, how many people came to watch and I loved participating!
